National Shake the Dust Slam Final

The National Shake the Dust Slam Final

The biggest youth poetry slam the UK has ever seen comes to Southbank. Young people have come together across the country, and now the highest scoring teams from each region will join forces at London Literature Festival, for an unmissable weekend of live performance poetry, films and other interactive events featuring some of the most celebrated spoken word artists writing and performing today.

Saturday 7 July
Tickets: £5
Address & Time: Queen Elizabeth Hall, 2pm
Booking: southbankcentre.co.uk

The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Nine teams of young poets from across the country take the stage in an unparalleled celebration of young people’s voices and the power of spoken word. Forget Britain’s Got Talent; prepare to be blown off your seat by the energy, originality, honesty and sheer virtuosity of this new generation of writers and performers. The judges, veterans of UK youth slam Charlie Dark, Khadijah Ibrahiim, Stephen Murray and Charlotte Higgins, have the near-impossible task of crowning a highest scoring team. But true to the spirit of youth slam, ‘the point is the poetry’.

Hosted by Shake the Dust Artistic Director, Jacob Sam-La Rose and featuring headline act, Speech Debelle. Passionate about spoken word from a young age, Mercury Prize Award-winning British hip-hop artist Speech Debelle is a wonderfully honest hybrid of spoken word and hip-hop in today’s culture.

Address: Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX
